Hi John, pleased to see a forum on this issue.
I don’t mind the “Daylight Saving Time” itself, but I hate having to cope with 2 different time zones as a business. My business is in South Tweed, but a fair bit of my trade is from QLD, and I have to stay open longer to service them. So, longer hours of work but no extra business (they don’t get out of bed til half the morning is over………).
So, my hate is the confusion locally, but there must be a lot of Qld businesses that would rather be on the same time zone as the rest of the East Coast. Let’s make a bit of noise…..

PREMIER Anna Bligh stood by her decision to end the daylight saving debate despite many people saying the State Government’s latest survey was flawed.
Ms Bligh yesterday ruled out a fresh vote or review of the issue, despite calls from business leaders and community officials for a second opinion.
“It is off the table . . . it is no longer on my agenda,” Ms Bligh said, speaking from Sydney where she was urging skilled workers to move north.
But tourism, business and other concerned Queenslanders want a new daylight saving survey because they believe the State Government’s recent study, conducted by Nielsen, may not have reflected true opinion across the state.
Concerns include:
• Southeast Queensland was under-represented in a survey of 1000 residents and 600 businesses.
• Some questions referred negatively to the introduction of daylight saving.
• In one question, respondents were initially told “the rest of the state is generally opposed to the idea”.
• The question of whether southeast Queensland should be in a separate time zone was preceded by a question about “agreeing in principle” on the idea of daylight saving.
• Some respondents may have been confused about what they were being asked.
• More options to register “drawbacks” of daylight saving were available to questioners than there were “benefits.”
Queensland Tourism Industry Council chief executive Daniel Gschwind said results of the Government’s survey would be different if the questions were better worded.

“We cannot sit back and allow Queensland to cause enormous problems to businesses on both sides of the border in particular but also to the rest of Australia eg the Airlines.”
These are common words seen in queensland, isn’t it nasty of Qld to cause such a problem?
Wait a minute, Qld didn’t start the daylight saving issue, it was the southern states that dicided to create the issue, adjusting the clock instead of adjusting the work hours.
Why should Qld take on a system that is only viable for the southern states? I don’t see any reason why we should do it just because the southern states reacon we should.
October 20th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
get with the times queenslanders why do we have to be backwards compared to all the other states . State government don’t let us make any other choices so why are they asking for our opinion now why not bring us in line with the rest of australia you know you want it.I don’t remember anyone asking for my vote Just do it !
April 15th, 2010 at 10:06 am
Why should we change clocks twice a yr in 90% of qld when we have absolutely not 1 good reason to do it. Tweed Shire is the 10% that needs it so why not move the border to a green zone south to lessen the degree of hardship around the Tweed Area. This would also help crime as the border has turned Tweed (a gorgeous area) into a criminal border town where they know they can get away with anything as dealing with 2 state laws.
The fading curtain patronising talk to Queenslanders is worn out & we deserve more respect in our wishes to not change anything…..all is perfect.////thankyou
April 15th, 2010 at 10:07 am
No daylight saving to Qld…..WHY WOULD WE NEED IT????
April 15th, 2010 at 2:05 pm
Yes !! lets do it ; go for daylight savings ;If the F.N.Q. do not want it OK ; let others enjoy what they do now with longer daylight hours ;
April 15th, 2010 at 5:36 pm
We do need DST.
April 15th, 2010 at 5:37 pm
For personal and business purposes i want DST.
April 15th, 2010 at 6:16 pm
Yes to daylight savings, lets enjoy the sun after work and not have it stream in out windows at 4.20am in the morning

Totally agree with ‘May from Brisbane’, WE DO NOT NEED DAYLIGHT SAVING, we also were in Melbourne when it was 1st introduced, having 4 children still awake at 9PM!! was a fair dinkum pain trying to get them to sleep with so much light in their rooms. Not to mention the stuffing around changing all the clocks fwd & backward. Speaking to many in forums from around the world, including Victoria & NSW, majority say they hate it and wish it was stopped. Why doesn’t NSW split time zones to get their north re-aligned BACK to our summertime zone? That would solve the Tweed heads time confusion for tourists, just leave Qld as it is thanks!
April 17th, 2010 at 5:53 pm
Not interested in daylight saving. Can’t get kids to sleep while sun is out.
April 18th, 2010 at 9:30 am
Daylight savings should NOT be introduced to QLD. I am previously from Northern NSW and found that DS even that far north was more trouble than its worth. Who wants to try to explain to a 3yr old that she can’t play outside when its streaming in daylight from outside at 9pm. It is an outdated idea, and a majority of residents in Northern NSW would like to see it scrapped. Rather than trying to introduce split time zones in QLD where we don’t need it, why not abolish it in Northern NSW where a majority neither want or need it.
April 18th, 2010 at 5:07 pm
We do NOT need DST in Queensland. I’ve lived here all my life and can tell you right now that the sun streaming in my window at 10pm is not a fair trade off for the 5am wake up time. At least at 5 I can get up and ready for the day, at by 10 I’d be dea on my feet and would have absolutely nothing added to my day. The sun sets at 8 in the height of summer in SEQLD so it’s not like we lack for sunlight to be out and about in.
April 19th, 2010 at 9:18 am
BEING FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIA I AM ALL FOR DAYLIGHT SAVING.FOR ALL THOSE CONCERNED ABOUT FADING CURTAINS AND COWS NOT MILKING AND BEING STRESSED,ITS ALL UNTRUE.I DO NOT BELIEVE IN TWO TIME ZONES.SO LETS TRIAL IT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS THEN HAVE A REFERENDUM BRING IT ON.I HAVE LIVED IN THIS WONDERFUL STATE FOR 16 YEARS,AND DO MISS DAYLIGHT SAVING.
April 19th, 2010 at 7:39 pm
What would be interesting is if it was put to a referendum in NSW would NSW still have daylight savings?
May 16th, 2010 at 11:01 pm
QLD does NOT need daylight savings. If something is not broken then don’t try to fix it. In other words leave us QLDs alone.
May 17th, 2010 at 7:19 am
It may be an advantage to workers who start late ie 9 to 5.
The rest of us have plenty of daylight hours after work without daylight savings.
May 17th, 2010 at 11:39 am
QLD does not require daylight saving, leave us alone we are very happy the way we are. If you want to start earlier in sommer time and finish earlier that should be your personal choice.
May 17th, 2010 at 10:22 pm
I used to live in NSW and I HATED DAYLIGHT SAVING, AS DID EVERYONE ALMOST TO A MAN. IT WOULD BE BETTER IF NSW CANCELLED DAYLIGHT SAVING FROM GRAFTON NORTH THE QLD BORDER. CHEERS.
May 18th, 2010 at 1:57 pm
Queensland will have daylight saving, but just like fluoride in the water it will take more than 20 years before they see the benefit and overcome the ingrained stubboness born out of burocratic nonsense to be different from the rest of Australia and do things the Queensland way!
May 24th, 2010 at 5:46 pm
Just seen the article on the news and it would have been helpful to have the website published to let people have their say. Will keep searching
May 24th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
I agree with all those parents out there who find it difficult to get their children to bed at an approriate hour..It’s a big enough job with little ones as it is..I look forward to 6 o’clock when my son is in bed and I can relax..Daylight savings will only delay this bed time with the sun still up and make my job harder..I also lived in Melbourne for 5 years and HATED it there..Daylight savings gets a NO vote from me!!
May 25th, 2010 at 5:30 pm
we need day light saving, we need to grt with the times
May 25th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
but it will not be light at 9pm as we do not have twilight up here on the coast
May 25th, 2010 at 5:34 pm
Leave it alone!! Daylight Saving is not wanted. Queenslanders have, many times, voiced and voted their opinions and A. Bligh has no right to go back again to the public, once again, for opinions. Our older residents, plus many others don’t have computers so unable to express their views this time, on line. JUST let the previous overwhelming ‘No Vote’ stand. NO DAYLIGHT SAVING Dont waste further tax payers money on something you have been told is not wanted!!!!!!!!!
May 25th, 2010 at 6:19 pm
We don’t need dls, our childeren see enough sun now & its no fun putting childeren to bed in the day-light.
May 26th, 2010 at 8:19 am

May 30th, 2010 at 8:26 pm
No. we do NOT want daylight saving. We have had a referendum previously and already have time zones in Wa & SA. Go to work earlier if you arn’t happy or go live in NSW.
May 31st, 2010 at 7:18 am
Having grown up in a day light savings state and then moving to QLD – I have been relieved not to have had Day light saving in my life for the past 13 years. Please don’t bring it to QLD – getting up in the dark is no fun!!!!
May 31st, 2010 at 7:33 am
Yes bring it on
May 31st, 2010 at 8:47 am

May 31st, 2010 at 9:08 am
Leave it alone. I run an aAustralia wide business, it can be a pain but we cope.

May 31st, 2010 at 10:52 am
WHY ARE THEY BRINGING THIS UP YET AGAIN!! How many times do people need to tell these pollys what they want. How bout LISTENING the first time. We have voted already how many times before and we dont want it. Leave it alone. If business is to hard to do interstate, CHANGE BUSINESS HRS!! Why should the whole state have to suffer.
May 31st, 2010 at 11:13 am
all the east coast states need to be in line for ease of business as well as pleasure.sunrise at 4.30am & work starts at 9.00am a full hour after the rest of the east coast & the last hour of work is wasted by not being able to do business interstate.Who wants to lay in bed wide awake @4.30am twiddling their thumbs till work time.
May 31st, 2010 at 5:07 pm
es, we do need daylight saving. It is ridiculous to be so out of whack with the rest of the Eastern seaboard and I, to would like to have some time after work to enjoy what living on the Gold Coast has to offer. My children took no more than 2 days to adjust to going to bed while it was light when we lived in South Australia. Just do it. Funny that I don’t know any one of my friends or relatives in SA who don’t like having great summer evenings on the beach or in parks with their kids.
May 31st, 2010 at 5:49 pm
No No PLEASE NO
May 31st, 2010 at 6:09 pm
YES…We do need Daylight Saving!!! I run a small business on the Sunshine Coast and it will be very positive for our business.
May 31st, 2010 at 6:14 pm
I DO NOT WONT DAY LIGHT SAVING
IF WE DO I WILL NOT VOTE YOU AT THE NEXT POLL, WE ARE OK IF YOU WONT IT IN THE SOUTH, CUT US OF AT ROCKY. THAT IS WHAT WE HAVE WONTED FOR YEARS THE SOUTH DRAINS UP AND WE ARE SICK OF THE FREE LOADING THE SOUTH QLD.
May 31st, 2010 at 6:21 pm
No NO NO a thousand times NO.Even with d/savings all states are on different times anyway so what is all this bull/sh(one)t about
May 31st, 2010 at 6:24 pm
It is very hot up here. We do not want more sunlight after working hours. We already hang out for the cooler evening and the glass of wine. To have to wait for the cool even longer would be too much.
May 31st, 2010 at 6:52 pm
dont mess with nature
we already do business with other timezones in oz,no big deal there.
NO TO DAYLIGHT SAVING
May 31st, 2010 at 7:54 pm
No,No, and No to daylight saving.
I don’t need it, I won’t make any more money from doing it, I will end up spending more time in the sun, and it will upset my evening glass of wine when it cools down enough and one can relax without sweating in the heat. In fact daylight saving won’t do a single thing to improve my lot. But if you really want to consider it, then lets split up Queensland from Rockhampton North.
May 31st, 2010 at 7:59 pm
DST for SE Qld is a good idea to bring us inline with Northern NSW. It also gives you that extra hour of daylight in the afternoon to get things done. Why people can’t understand that you don’t actually get an extra hour of daylight is beyond me. Maybe it’s because they don’t get up early enough to realise that it is already light. Personally I enjoyed it the last time we had it in.
May 31st, 2010 at 9:40 pm
Yes, daylight savings is a great idea
May 31st, 2010 at 9:44 pm
Yes I feel we should have daylight saving, particularly in SEQ, in fact I would go one step further and say majority should rule – if more states want daylight savings then we should have it, no question, no referendum.
May 31st, 2010 at 10:00 pm
Daylight saving for Qld is a definite “NO”. It causes more problems than it solves.
Toured Vic during daylight saving, penguin meant we were waiting an extra hour for viewing and extremely late. Even my Qld granddaughter [11] says ‘Its awful’. Qld weather in pm is not inducive to outdoor activity in summer heat.
If businesses want to change, they could organise for their employees to commence work an hour earlier. For the North of Qld pls note that the closer we get to the equator, the closer we are to an equinox. Daylight saving, will cause greater energy consumption, for lights would be needed for the earlier commencement time, to say nothing for the farmers and mothers trying to get children to bed an hour earlier in the heat of the evening. There are more arguments against than for.
November 16th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
Whilst it might be enjoyable getting home in daylight, it is no fun at all waking up in darkness.
Please don’t bring daylight savings to Qld !!!
January 18th, 2011 at 10:39 pm
Obviously no one lives with children in one time zone, work in another and appointments randomly between different timezones depending on the business. I have school in NSW, Uni in QLD and work in QLD. Uniformity would be nice, Tweed may be lovely but living on the border never again! Cannot wait to get out of here! What kind of a place uses two time zones?
