History
The idea of conducting business breakfasts in the Tweed and Gold Coast area was the dream of John Hurd. He had worked with a large number of unemployed people and was looking for
a way of introducing them to local business owners. He had seen the success of business breakfasts in Sydney and sought a way to introduce them to this area.
The opportunity to start Business Excellence breakfasts came in August 1993, and when the first one was held, it attracted 36 participants. The Minister for Small Business was the second speaker in September 1993. In October 145 participants attended a breakfast when International Presenter Robyn Henderson addressed this large group.
The breakfasts continue to attract the support of local business people and continue to be held once per month for over seventeen years with a wide variety of top presenters including Mr. Bob Ansett, Noel Whittaker, Brett Chamberlain, Sergio Carla Maresca, Patsy Rowe, Kurek Ashley and many other excellent presenters.
The presenters covered a wide variety of topics from staff selection, marketing, customer service and other business boosting or self-development ideas. The support of the local business people has been paramount to the success of possibly one of the longest running business breakfasts events in Australia.
The Business Breakfasts are held the third Wednesday of the month at the Tweed Heads Bowls Club at 7am NSW.
A local business provider phoned John recently to say how pleased he was with the “investment return” of Business Excellence breakfasts as he had 
followed the suggestions from previous presenters, and his business (the hire of house boats) had prospered and succeeded dramatically.
John has received sponsorship and support from a wide variety of local business on both sides of the border and looks forward to encouraging all business owners to meet like minded people at his breakfast venues.
